Susanna Elizabeth Bonzo
Children of Susanna E. Bonzo and Peter J. Deemer
Notes for Susanna and Peter:
SUSANNA ELIZABETH BONZO, daughter of Pierre Louis Bonzon and Marguerite Magnenat, was born April 05, 1810 in the Brush Creek area of Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and died January 24, 1898 in Madison township, Scioto County, Ohio.

She married PETER JACOB DEEMER, son of Andreas Diemer and Maria Magdelena Fahringer about 1829 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania.  He was born July 15, 1804 in , Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and died October 07, 1857 in Madison township, Scioto County, Ohio.

"Susan" was widowed shortly after the birth of her tenth child, but never remarried.
SUSANNA ELIZABETH BONZO:
Most of the kids are listed as having been born in Butler or Beaver counties, Pa.  From this, probably, comes the speculation that this family moved to Ohio in 1856 or 1857.

According to material in the Bonzo Folder in the Beaver Falls, Pa Carnegie Library, Jacob and Susanna sold 37 acres in Beaver county, Pa in 1856.  They moved to Scioto County, Ohio in 1857."

Dates were given by a Bonzo Family Researcher, surely obtained from Scioto County, Ohio, records.  Date of 5 April 1810 is from St. Paul's records.  The researcher had birth of 10 April 1810.

Susan rests at Squires (Kallner) cemetery, located 1 mile north of Minford, Scioto county, Ohio.

PETER JACOB DEEMER:
From Scioto County Descendancies: Hans Diemer, Fifth Generation, Jacob Diemer
, www.scioto.org,:

"Jacob must have traveled with his brother-in-law John {Jean Gabriel} to Ohio in  1849 where he entered two land Patents: #15929 & #16260.  The land of 157.49 acres was located in section 7, Madison township, Scioto county.  Jacob returned to Beaver county, Pa. and the family remained there several more years  My Dad, Joseph H. Deemer, placed the time of the move to Ohio at about 1856.
Jacob and Susan loaded their family and belongings on a river barge and floated down the Ohio river to Portsmouth.  They traveled up the Scioto Valley to Madison Township. There were other relatives in the area, half of Susan's siblings had moved to Scioto county.  Their new home was on virgin land which had to be cleared and a  cabin built. Unfortunately, Jacob caught the "Ague" and died in October 1857 leaving Susan with the farm and a family of ten children to raise alone.  She was amazing!"

Other documentation: birth and death information from information in the Bonzo folder in Beaver Falls' Carnegie Library.  Also see Scioto County death records for 1803-1860.
Marriage information from a Deemer descendent.

From a Deemer Descendant  - 2003:
Jacob and Susan came to Ohio in 1857 and settled on a farm 2 miles north of Harrisonville, Scioto County, Ohio. Their new home was a virgin land, which had to be cleared and a cabin built. Their son Andrew did not come with them. Unfortunately, Jacob caught the Ague  and died that same year leaving his wife and 10 children. The older children were married. Susan was a native of France. [Editors note:  It is now know that Susan(na) was of Swiss heritage, but that her parents came to the U.S. with French (Napoleonic Empire) documents]
Susan was a widow for 43 years. The Vondon Lyons farm, 2 miles northeast of Harrisonville was formerly the Deemer farm. Susan was still living on the farm during the Civil War. Word came that the Morgan Raiders were coming this way. The Morgan Raiders, it was said, would take young horses from people and leave them with the worn out old nags. Susan had a young team of horses. When she heard that the Morgan Raiders were coming she took her team down in Bond woods and hid them. Susan also his her silverware in a hollow apple tree so they couldn't take them. The raiders did not make it this far.
When Susan died the only 2 people said to have attended Susans funeral were her son David and his daughter Fannie. It was said to have been a very cold day.
Jacob and Susans sandstone monument is just to the left of the south entrance to Squires
(Kallner) Cemetery, directly west of State Rt. 335, 1 mile north of Minford, (formerly Harrisonville, until 1917).

From a second Deemer Descendant  - 2003:
Jacob Deemer died 7 October, 1857, Madison Township. Scioto Co. Ohio. The oldest son, William Andrew was married and on his own. Susan was left with eight children still at home. My grandmother, Fannie Pearl Deemer Kirkpatrick, said that Susans farm was where the Vondon Lyons farm is now. (1955)
Susan was living on the farm during the Civil War because she would tell about hiding her young team of horses down in the Bond Woods away from Morgans Raiders who were coming their way. She also hid her silver in a hollow apple tree. The Raiders were captured before they reached Harrisonville. (now Minford)
This is copied from my mothers writings, my mother being Ina Hazel Kirkpatrick Kent. She writes
," My mother, Fannie Pearl Deemer Kirkpatrick, said she and her father, David Samson Deemer, were the only ones from their family to attend her funeral. It was a bitter cold day."
