PETER LEWIS BONZO, son of Pierre Louis Bonzon and Marguerite Magnenat, was born about 1806 in the Brush Creek area, Beaver County, Pa., and died March 11, 1889 in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, Pa.. He married (1) MARGARETTA B. ZAHLER. She was born July 12, 1807 in Pennsylvania, and died about 1838 in New Sewickley township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania. He married (2) REBECCA BROOKS (pictured above) in 1839. She was born in 1820, and died in 1887.

From a Bonzo Family researcher: In a letter to her daughter, Blanche Miller Bonzo says that Peter met one of his wives, she believes the first, at an Inn in Sewickley, where she worked. Peter was riding a black stallion to Pittsburgh and was having trouble mounting him. All present were afraid to help, so the girl came out and held the steed. They (Peter and the girl) were later married in Pittsburgh.
The birth year is estimated from a variety of census information plus known birth years of siblings. The death date is from an affidavit made by Henry Bonzo to the Register of Wills on 16 March 1889. See LDS microfilm 1288904, Vol 5, page 332.
MARGARETTA B. ZAHLER
The first name is contained in several deeds. Last name was "Fombelle" according to Rex Bonzo's 1968 version of the Family history, but this is now known to be an error. "Zeiler" (Zahler, Sailor) is claimed by others. Evidence for the latter name consists of
1) Christian "Sailor" lived nearby and Margaret's grandson was named Christian Saylor Schweinsberg;
2) Joseph "Zahler" married Peter Lewis Bonzo's sister.
3) Death certificate of daughter Margaret Brown indicates her mother was Margaret "Zeiler." That of daughter Mary Schweinsberg gives Margaret "Sailor" and says she was born in Pennsylvania.
Confirmation and birth dates given in St. Paul's German Lutheran and Reformed Church records (Zelienople, Pa.), which gives confirmation on 8 Nov 1823, birth date, and parents names.
From a Bonzo Family researcher: "Margaret's brother Joseph was the husband of Jeanne Henriette Bonzon, the sister of Margaret's husband.
